Canon Digital EOS Rebel XT

by Big E
(Amarillo, TX)

The Canon Rebel XT has got to be one of my favorite all time cameras. The interchangeability of the lenses and other attachments make it an all time plus. The camera simply gets a point and click thumbs up, it has a little green arrow which allows you to see photos immediately after you have taken them. It has a wonderful auto-focus feature which can be turned off as you develop the skills to be better than the camera already is. To engage the auto-focus you simply press the take photo button halfway, the viewfinder will show you a little red dot (that blinks) and then you can go ahead and take the photo. The battery seems to last a long time (it is rechargeable), I have not drained my battery yet and have had the camera since Christmas. That probably doesn’t say a whole lot, but it has had several hundred photos taken. Versatility is unreal as the camera can basically be custom built to your specific needs (by you), or it can be taken off the shelf and you can get some pretty incredible photos.

The only real problem that I see with the camera is that it doesn’t offer the “live screen” where you can watch the little display screen as you are filming. That isn’t a real show stopper for me, but it may be for some other folks.

The photos can be captured by a computer in several different ways, I prefer to simply plug in a USB cable and grab them. My wife prefers to use the download software which is supplied, so again versatility is very important here.
