Introduction to Scanning Photos

Scanning photos is the process of creating a digital image of your printed photographs. There are many good reasons to scan your photographs: A digital copy of a photo can last tens to hundreds of years longer than a printed copy, millions of photographs can be stored in the space of one shoebox of printed photos, duplicate copies can be made from a digital image of a photograph, and old photos can be easily restored once scanned.

The best reason to scan your photographs is to archive them so that they won't be lost to a fire, flood, theft, or a number of other calamities claiming families' favorite possessions each year.

Why not give photo CD gifts while you're scanning photos ? That way, you'll have duplicates of your valued photographs stored off-site as well as giving thoughtful gifts to friends and family. Of-site storage is important for all backups, whether it's data files or photographs.
